NTI offers first and second year teachers professional development sessions, informational sessions, planning time, and spaces to connect with your new colleagues. Attendance at the New Teacher Institute is expected for all teachers who are both new to teaching and new to OUSD. Attendance is strongly encouraged for returning teachers who are entering their second or third years in the classroom.

Build Your Schedule
July 29-30: Classroom Culture
Select one of two morning workshops on Creating Strong Classroom Culture and then build your afternoon schedule from the range of offerings listed.

July 31-August 2: Content & Curriculum
Choose the workshops aligned to your grade level and content area. Note: If the same workshop is listed on multiple days (i.e. Middle School English Language Arts), you will need to register for it each day that you plan to attend.

How to know if it’s working: Building checks for understanding into your instruction

Ever teach a lesson and wonder if your students actually understood the content? When you ask if anyone has questions and it's silent, does that mean everyone gets it? In this workshop we will explore real time ways to monitor your students' progress through Checks For Understanding (CFU). Teachers will leave this workshop equipped with new strategies and understandings for how and when to implement CFUs and adjust instruction.
