NTI offers first and second year teachers professional development sessions, informational sessions, planning time, and spaces to connect with your new colleagues. Attendance at the New Teacher Institute is expected for all teachers who are both new to teaching and new to OUSD. Attendance is strongly encouraged for returning teachers who are entering their second or third years in the classroom.

Build Your Schedule
July 29-30: Classroom Culture
Select one of two morning workshops on Creating Strong Classroom Culture and then build your afternoon schedule from the range of offerings listed.

July 31-August 2: Content & Curriculum
Choose the workshops aligned to your grade level and content area. Note: If the same workshop is listed on multiple days (i.e. Middle School English Language Arts), you will need to register for it each day that you plan to attend.

Your journey of cultivating Culturally Responsive Teaching starts here. In this session, we will explore the core principles that shape our instructional approach and classroom management. Understand how self-awareness of cultural identity is the pivotal first step towards effective CRT implementation. You will leave with practical tools and activities ready for use in your classroom during those critical initial weeks of school, empowering you to initiate an equitable and inclusive classroom culture.
