NTI offers first and second year teachers professional development sessions, informational sessions, planning time, and spaces to connect with your new colleagues. Attendance at the New Teacher Institute is expected for all teachers who are both new to teaching and new to OUSD. Attendance is strongly encouraged for returning teachers who are entering their second or third years in the classroom.

July 29-30: Classroom Culture
Select one of two morning workshops on Creating Strong Classroom Culture and then build your afternoon schedule from the range of offerings listed.

July 31-August 2: Content & Curriculum
Choose the workshops aligned to your grade level and content area. Note: If the same workshop is listed on multiple days (i.e. Middle School English Language Arts), you will need to register for it each day that you plan to attend.

Students become intrinsically motivated to contribute productively to a community they feel invested in, and where they know they matter. The Caring School Community program is designed to build that community through thoughtfully designed daily Morning and Closing Circles and weekly Class Meetings, intentional integration across the school day, and throughout the schoolwide community. CSC promotes positive behavior through the direct teaching of responsibility, empathy, and cooperation, creating settings where students feel heard, known, and cared for.
